The Artist
Claude Monet (1840 – 1926) was a French painter, and is best known as the founder of impressionism, a style of painting that includes small, visible brushstrokes that offer the ‘impression’ of form, using colour and natural light as the inspiration.
Monet was one of the first artists to paint outside, or ‘en plein air’ as it is known in french, as he was very passionate about capturing the impression of a landscape or moment in time in it’s natural state.

Some of Monet’s most famous works, without a doubt, are the waterlilies series, and the gardens of his home estate Giverny, in Vernon, France, as well as many paintings of the cathedrale in Rouen, the seaside in Normandy and his wife and daughter in various beautiful outdoor settings.
